Not very Christmassy but this year JoJo packed up his paper boat and ended up in the Trevi Fountain (or beside it a least!). I love the paper boat so much I am going to rewrite one of the JoJo tales next year to include one.
T is also for tea and if you are in Glasgow you should get along to the fabulous Hidden Tea Room and experience their amazing afternoon tea. Who wouldn’t love their vintage tea cups!!! (Cakes are fab too!)

I had great fun the other night when I visited the some of the youngest members of the Strathblane Scout Group (the Beavers). We got some of the biggest marshmallows I have ever seen, stuck on some chocolate and sweeties. Then we did the most obvious thing next… made them dance! (Then they ate them!). Have a look at the video.

I do enjoy a wee taste of the old Christmas pud. Seemingly in the 14th century the traditional Christmas pudding was a sort of porridge which was made with beef, mutton, raisins, currents, prunes, wine and mixed spices (yum!). A silver coin was traditionally put in puddings and it was luck came to the person who found it (I assume except if they swallowed it!).
Presents are also part of our Christmas tradition and a wee added Christmas present if yours if you buy JoJo Gnome and the Smell of Christmas and send us a copy of the receipt (along with your child’s name). We will email you a piece of JoJo Gnome digital art.

When out doing storytelling sessions with JoJo Gnome & the Smell of Christmas I have been doing some smelly guessing games with my young readers. Why not try it out at home. You will need a blindfold and some wonderfully Christmassy things to smell. Some suggestions are:- cinnamon sticks, ginger, candy canes, oranges, a mince pie and of course … a sock (well Santa has to smell lots of these).

Next year I am going to do an audio version of JoJo Gnome and The Sound Machine and wanted to have some music mixed in with the story. The person I turned to when looking for a theme was Al Fleming, a wonderful musician, who lives close by. Al is a musician and song writer who is known for playing and composing some wonderful blues material. However he discovered his inner ‘gnome’ and helped me with my music. Not content with just having gnome music I asked him for some Christmas gnome music (well you have to ask!!!!).
Here it is as a music bed under christmas book trailer. I love it! I am going to ask him to write for my compost choir next year …so stay tuned.
Al is involved in organising the State Bar Clutha Benefit Jam on December 17th in Glasgow.
