Welcome to the JoJo Gnome’s Christmas Advent Calendar to celebrate the latest JoJo Gnome bookJoJo Gnome & the Smell of Christmas. It’s day 11 and that means mistletoe. Pucker up and hang up some mistletoe in the hallway (or in any other part of the house!) . So for your pleasure and knowledge here are some things you might not know about mistletoe…
-Mistletoe is toxic to people, but the berries and leaves provide high-protein food for many animals.
– The custom that a man and woman who meet under mistletoe are obliged to kiss …maybe of Scandinavian origin.
– Mistletoe is considered a pest in many areas of the world. A host tree or bush heavily infested with mistletoe can be stunted or even die.
– However, mistletoe is an important food source and a nesting place for a variety of bird species.
You never know it might come up in a Christmas quiz!

For some tradition is everything at Christmas time and food and drink plays a huge part in that. Here is a link to a recipe for eggnog and a non alcoholic version for the kids. When you think about it a bit of an extra special twist on the ordinary egg. Cheers

It’s time to get out the Christmas baubles, lights and tinsel and start decorating. The Smell of Christmas quilt which I take with me when I am doing readings in schools has even had a few lights and some tinsel added!
The decorations I like best are home made ones which come out year after year (and are put in pride of place). There are lots of great ideas out there online for fun decorations to make for younger kids. Here are some of my favourites.

I have been on the countdown to Christmas now for the past couple of months (and longer). The story for JoJo Gnome and the Smell of Christmas had been in my head for sometime but was finally written down in August. The drawings followed and so the craving for Christmas pies for me began in October (probably about the time they started to arrive in the shops!!!). So now everyone else has caught up and they are on the Christmas countdown too.
The Christmas Countdown e-book trailer is now finished and up …so please go and have a look and enjoy. I will tell you more about the music nearer to Christmas and introduce you to the guy who composed it for me. I have to thank the Primary 3 class at Strathblane Primary School for their help too. Hope you enjoy it. It’s still not too late to get making your own JoJo Gnome super easy advent calendar.

Why not treat a young person you know to the e-book JoJo Gnome & the smell of Christmas by Jo Hall. In the second book of the JoJo Gnome series our little gnome loves all the smells connected with Christmas but poor Grandpa Gnome has a cold. It is a chance to encourage younger children to sniff out the holiday season in a different way. You can download the e-book from amazon for only £2.58 . Download the free kindle app to be able to view the e-book on computer, phone or tablet. A good read and portable!
